At least five labourers hailing from Punjab province were shot dead after unidentified armed men opened fire on shops in the Mashkel area of Washuk district, Balochistan, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
According to police sources, the attackers indiscriminately opened fire at shops where labourers were working, killing all five victims on the spot before fleeing the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that all the deceased belonged to different areas of Punjab.
Their bodies are being sent to their hometowns after the completion of legal formalities.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, security forces and other law enforcement agencies have initiated a search operation to trace and arrest those responsible for the killings.
In separate messages, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the killing of five unarmed labourers in the Mashkel area, describing the attack as a barbaric act of terrorism and an assault on Pakistan's unity.
They expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and expressed heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the martyrs.
The President and Prime Minister said such cowardly attacks cannot shake the resolve of the nation.
They said the security forces are determined to completely eradicate terrorism from the country and protect the lives and property of every citizen.
Mohsin Naqvi said the terrorists of Fitna-ul-Hindustan and their facilitators do not deserve any concession and will be brought to justice. Balochistan chief minister said the victims were not just Punjabi labourers but citizens of Pakistan, hardworking people, and "our own brothers."
He said the attack was directed not at a single province or ethnic group, but at Pakistan's unity, Constitution, and the writ of the state.
