Pakistan's top diplomat called for "de-escalation" and for parties in the Iran conflict to "show restraint" during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart on Sunday, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry statement said.
"Both leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation," Pakistan's foreign ministry said in a statement after the call between Ishaq Dar and Abbas Araghchi.
Dar "further underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and achieving lasting peace and stability in the region", it said.
In a separate report aired by the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday, Oman has proposed the creation of two separate maritime corridors for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to ensure safe and uninterrupted navigation along one of the world's busiest shipping routes.
According to CNN, the proposal would designate a southern maritime corridor for the free movement of international commercial vessels.
Ships choosing to use the northern corridor would be required to obtain prior approval from Iran before entering the route.
The proposal also states that no tolls or additional fees would be imposed on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, maintaining free access for international shipping.
The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting in Muscat between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.
During the talks, both sides agreed to continue technical and political negotiations aimed at ensuring safe and unrestricted navigation through the strategic waterway.
According to Axios, Araghchi did not immediately accept Oman's proposal.
The Iranian foreign minister said the plan would first undergo further review and internal consultations in Tehran before any formal decision is taken.
He added that the final decision on whether to approve the proposal would rest with Iran's senior leadership after completing the consultation process.
Saudi envoy meets Dar
Also on Sunday, Saudi Ambassador in Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and discussed with him the latest situation in the region.
Dar, on the occasion, renewed the pledge to further strengthen relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
