Action was taken against over 2,100 transporters across Punjab during the last 24 hours who allowed the passengers to travel on buses’ rooftops, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to the spokesman for the Traffic Police, an amount of over Rs1.5 million was slapped in fines on the transporters during the aforementioned period.
The spokesman further said that over 600 vehicles were impounded, while FIRs were registered against 194 drivers who repeated the same mistake despite having been challaned.
On the other hand, Additional IG Traffic Mirza Faran Beg has said that the traffic police will not allow the transporters to allow passengers to travel on rooftops for the sake of money.
The officer said that an awareness campaign had been launched so that people could be discouraged from travelling in such a dangerous way.
He appealed to the transporters to cooperate with the traffic police so that the lives of people could be saved. “Because the protection of the lives of passengers is the traffic police’s top priority.”
