A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has summoned Aleema Khan, sister of imprisoned founder of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Omar Ayub Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, in connection with their alleged involvement in negative propaganda on social media, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.
In separate notices issued to them on Wednesday, Aleema Khan was summoned today while Omar Ayub was asked to appear before the JIT tomorrow (March 13).
The JIT was formed under section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 under the supervision of Inspector-General of Police Islamabad
Sources further revealed that JIT already obtained credible evidences against Omar Ayub and Aleema Khan.
It is pertinent to mention here that the JIT investigating individuals accused of anti-Pakistan rhetoric and baseless social media claims.
Its goal is to identify culprits and ensure legal action. Last year, the federal government set up a five-member JIT to probe a coordinated anti-state social media campaign deemed harmful to national interests.
The JIT includes Islamabad’s police chief as convener, senior FIA officials, the cybercrime and counterterrorism directors, the DIG (investigation), and the SSP (Counter Terrorism Department).
