Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet is set to step into the world of Middle earth after reportedly joining the cast of the upcoming fantasy film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
According to industry reports, the actress is in talks to appear in the project, though details about her character have not yet been revealed.
The film will be directed by Andy Serkis, who is also returning to play the iconic character Gollum, a role he famously portrayed in the original The Lord of the Rings film trilogy created by filmmaker Peter Jackson.
The story of The Hunt for Gollum will take place between the events of The Hobbit film trilogy and The Lord of the Rings.
The narrative reportedly focuses on a secret mission led by Aragorn and Gandalf as they search for Gollum in hopes of uncovering crucial information about the mysterious ring once carried by Bilbo Baggins later revealed to be the powerful One Ring that threatens the fate of Middle earth.
The film will be produced by Jackson alongside longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who played key roles in shaping the original cinematic adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendary fantasy saga.
The movie is being developed under Warner Bros. and its New Line Cinema banner, with a planned theatrical release in December 2027.
Several familiar faces from the franchise are also expected to return.
Veteran actor Ian McKellen is set to reprise his role as Gandalf, while Elijah Wood has hinted that he could once again appear as Frodo Baggins.
Winslet, a seven time Academy Award nominee who won for The Reader, recently appeared in Avatar: Fire and Ash, directed by James Cameron.
Her addition to the Middle-earth franchise signals another major chapter in the celebrated actress’s career as the beloved fantasy world prepares to expand once again on the big screen.
