A routine cosmetic surgery turned tragic for social media creator Rachel Tussey, a 47 year old TikTok personality, after complications following a tummy tuck reportedly left her with a severe brain injury.
Tussey, who documented her mommy makeover journey for more than 25,000 followers on TikTok, underwent the procedure on February 25 at a surgical facility in Cincinnati, Ohio
According to her husband, Jeremy Tussey, what was expected to be a routine cosmetic operation quickly turned into a medical emergency.
The procedure was performed by plastic surgeon Dr. Shahryar Tork, who later released a statement expressing sympathy for the family.
The doctor said the surgery itself was completed successfully and that Tussey appeared stable and alert when he last saw her in the recovery room.
However, her condition reportedly deteriorated shortly afterward.
Jeremy Tussey recalled that while waiting nearby he was suddenly called back to the recovery area, where he noticed his wife’s condition rapidly worsening.
Medical staff attempted emergency resuscitation before she was rushed to hospital.
Tussey was later transferred to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital, where doctors determined she had suffered a severe anoxic brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain.
According to her husband, medical professionals told him she may have gone more than six minutes without oxygen, leading to irreversible damage.
An attorney representing the family confirmed that the incident is now under investigation, though no legal claims have yet been filed.
The heartbreaking case has drawn widespread attention online, particularly because Tussey had posted a hopeful video shortly before the surgery, telling followers she was excited for the long awaited procedure.
Family members say she leaves behind her husband and three children, while loved ones continue to seek answers about what led to the devastating outcome.
