Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday approved Rs5,000 per acre support price for 600,000 farmers through Kisan Card.

She announced that even farmers without a Kisan Card would receive the same subsidy. She further stated that billions of rupees in subsidies would be provided for the upcoming crops as well.

Maryam said that more financial help, worth billions of rupees, will be given for the upcoming crop season to boost productivity and support farmers.

She highlighted that farmers have utilized Rs36 billion for agriculture through the Kisan Card.  It is noted that they have paid back Rs 22 billion in loans, which shows a 60% repayment rate.

Based on this performance, the Punjab government is issuing the second installment of loans for the next season, she added.

The meeting also reviewed the solarization scheme for agricultural tube wells and discussed proposals for implementing the wheat support programme.
During the meeting, it was also reported that 50% of the applications received for the wheat subsidy and have already been verified.

In the end, the Punjab Chief Minister stressed that transparency and accountability in the distribution process would be mandatory, and that it is essential to ensure subsidies reach the deserving farmers on time.
