A fire broke out in the power van of the Green Line Express near Lakha Road station in the Mehrabpur area on Tuesday, prompting railway authorities to halt the train and initiate emergency measures.

According to the Railway Administration, the incident occurred when the Green Line Express was travelling towards Karachi. Officials said the fire erupted in the train’s power van near Lake Road, after which the train was immediately stopped at Lakha Road railway station.

Railway staff and emergency personnel managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread to other compartments, officials added. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

The Railway Administration said preliminary observations suggest that the ongoing intense heat wave may have contributed to the incident. Officials noted that similar cases involving railway engines and power vans have recently been reported due to extremely high temperatures affecting technical systems and equipment.

Authorities said repair work on the affected power van was underway and the Green Line Express would resume its journey after the completion of necessary technical repairs and safety clearance.
