Pakistan has secured full membership of the International Olive Council, a move the government says will open international markets for the country’s olive industry and strengthen agricultural exports, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said the membership marked a historic achievement for Pakistan’s olive sector and would provide local olive oil producers access to global standards, certification systems, and international trade opportunities.

In a statement, the minister said the development was expected to attract foreign investment into Pakistan’s olive industry and help boost the country’s agricultural economy.

“Olive exports will significantly contribute to Pakistan’s foreign exchange earnings,” he said, adding that the government would continue efforts to bring local olive production in line with international standards.
