Australia etched their name in the history books by completing the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history, defeating India by three wickets in a thrilling ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 encounter on Sunday.

Chasing an imposing 331-run target, the Australian side, led by captain Alyssa Healy, displayed remarkable grit and aggression to seal victory at 7 wickets down, surpassing the previous world record chase of 302-4 set by Sri Lanka against South Africa in 2024.

Healy was the star of the night, producing a breathtaking captain’s innings of 142 runs off 118 balls, laced with 21 fours and 3 sixes.

Her dominant stroke play dismantled India’s bowling attack and laid the foundation for a memorable win.

She received crucial support from Ashleigh Gardner, who scored 45, and Phoebe Litchfield, who contributed 40 valuable runs.

Later, all-rounder Ellyse Perry guided the side home with an unbeaten 47, ensuring Australia’s third consecutive victory in the tournament.

India’s bowlers struggled to contain the Australian charge, though Shrey Charani stood out with three wickets, while Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur bagged two apiece.

Earlier, opting to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 330 runs, anchored by solid top-order performances.

Smriti Mandhana top-scored with 80, while Prathika Rawal added 75.

Contributions from Harleen Deol (38), Jemimah Rodrigues (33), and Richa Ghosh (32) ensured a strong finish for the hosts.

For Australia, Annabel Sutherland was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for 40 runs, while Sophie Molineux picked up 3 wickets to keep India’s total in check.

The record-breaking victory also marked India’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament.
