Renowned Pakistani boxer Usman Wazeir has served a legal notice to the Pakistan Professional Boxing Federation (PPBF), accusing it of defamation and character assassination, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
The notice demands an unconditional public apology and Rs 200 million in damages for the harm caused to his reputation.
The legal notice, sent on the boxer's behalf, states that the allegations made by the PPBF had significantly damaged Wazeir's standing and dignity both nationally and internationally.
It strongly refuted the federation's claims, asserting that his professional record, titles, and accomplishments are fully recognized and valid.
He also challenged the PPBF's very authority to make such claims.
It clarified that professional boxing is governed and recognized by international sanctioning bodies and registries, not amateur or hobbyist organizations.
The notice contended that the PPBF, as an entity not recognized on the global stage, holds no mandate or jurisdiction to organize professional boxing or interfere in its matters, labeling its questions about Wazeir's career progression as "baseless."
The notice accuses the Federation of attempting to tarnish Wazeir's hard-earned reputation and, in doing so, harming the development of professional boxing within Pakistan.
The legal notice gives the PPBF a seven-day deadline to comply with the demands, which include issuing a full public apology.
Failure to do so, the boxer will have the right to pursue further legal action against the organization, it adds.
