Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has expressed concern over rising petroleum prices and inflation, urging the government to take immediate steps to provide relief to the public, 24NewsHd TV reported.
In a statement on Saturday, Afridi said heavy taxes were being imposed on petrol to collect revenue from the public, while the burden of failing to meet tax collection targets was also passed on to ordinary citizens.
He said the increase in petrol prices was not merely a result of global conditions but also reflected government mismanagement and administrative weaknesses.
Rising prices of essential commodities had already created serious problems for households, while higher petroleum prices further increased the cost of living.
Afridi called on the government to avoid shifting the burden of its policies and financial needs onto the people and instead adopt effective, public-friendly measures to ease their difficulties.
