The Balochistan Assembly on Monday approved several pieces of legislation, including the draft laws for the Balochistan Labour and Personnel Court, the SEZ Pakistanis Commission (2026), amendments to the Balochistan Universities Act, and an anti-begging bill.
The session, chaired by Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, began with a delay of 35 minutes. Lawmakers Zarin Magsi, Saleem Khosa, and Wali Muhammad Noorzai presented three separate draft bills, all of which were unanimously passed by the house.
During the session, members also raised serious concerns over the killing of a young man in Nushki, who had reportedly traveled to donate blood but was allegedly shot dead by police. On a point of order, MPA Agha Umar Ahmed Zai demanded the formation of a committee to investigate the incident.
Lawmakers criticized the actions of the police’s Eagle Squad, with Younis Zehri questioning its authority to use lethal force and stressing that suspects should be presented before courts. Rehmat Saleh Baloch acknowledged police sacrifices in counterterrorism efforts but called for the arrest of those responsible. Samad Gurgaj warned that failure to address such incidents could lead to tribal tensions.
Responding to the concerns, Interior Minister Ziaullah Langove informed the house that the chief minister had taken notice of the incident and assured that action would be taken against those involved.
Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti reiterated that an inquiry was underway and justice would be ensured. He said strict action would follow the investigation, while compensation would be provided to the victim’s family after completion of legal procedures, including the post-mortem report. He also noted that police performance should be appreciated where warranted.
The assembly session concluded with prayers (Fateha) offered for those killed in incidents in Khalid Sasoli and Hazarganji.
