An important meeting of opposition parties was held at Mufti Mahmood Markaz in Peshawar on Monday to deliberate on the vacant Senate seat previously held by Murad Saeed, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.
The meeting was chaired by JUI-KP provincial chief Senator Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman and attended by the provincial leadership of major opposition parties, including PML-N, PPP, ANP, and PTI-Parliamentarians (PTI-P).
Sources said the participants discussed the possibility of fielding a unified candidate for the Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a bid to strengthen the opposition’s position.
During the meeting, Maulana Abdul Hasib Haqqani was considered as a candidate for the Senate seat on behalf of JUI.
Further consultations are expected as opposition parties seek consensus on a joint nominee.
