The Punjab government has approved a massive restructuring of its health department's pharmacy cadre, sanctioning 959 new positions and reorganising 1,518 posts across the province, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

According to the decision, a total of 959 new positions have been created, while the overall structure of 1,518 posts in the pharmacy cadre has been reorganised.

The move has received formal approval from the provincial finance department, which also cleared the revised distribution of posts across grades 17 to 20.

Under the new structure, the number of senior positions has been enhanced, including additional posts for Chief Drug Controllers in Grade 20.

The number of Drug Controllers and Directors Technical in Grade 19 has also been increased to bolster regulatory oversight.

At the mid-tier level, the number of Deputy Drug Controller posts in Grade 18 has been raised to 234.

Meanwhile, 897 new posts for pharmacists in Grade 17 have been approved to support service delivery at hospitals and drug testing facilities.

The Finance Department has directed relevant authorities to complete the verification and audit process of the newly approved posts at the earliest to ensure the timely implementation of the restructuring plan.
