Beyoncé has taken another step toward the entertainment industry’s most prestigious achievement, EGOT status, after scoring her first-ever Emmy Award.
The 43-year-old superstar, who already holds the record for most Grammy wins with 35 trophies, clinched the award in the Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming category for her Netflix special Beyoncé Bowl, which aired in December 2024.
The win comes after 13 previous Emmy nominations spanning over a decade. Joining her in the honour are costume designer Shiona Turini, costume supervisor Chelsea Staebell, head of workroom Timothy White, and assistant costume designers Erica Rice and Molly Peters. The award will be officially presented during the 2025 Creative Arts Emmys on September 7 in Los Angeles, a week ahead of the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Beyoncé Bowl, officially billed as the NFL 2024 Christmas Day Halftime Show, premiered live on Netflix during the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The 13-minute spectacle featured hits from her Grammy-winning country album Cowboy Carter, accompanied by a massive ensemble of 500 performers, including Shaboozey, Post Malone, and her 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
The performance attracted more than 27 million U.S. viewers and became an instant pop culture moment. The star’s costume, a white cowboy hat paired with a sparkling bodysuit and chaps, paid homage to her Texas roots, Black Southern heritage, and rodeo culture. Turini revealed the production featured “over 400 carefully curated costumes.”
Beyoncé’s Emmy victory also leaves her in the running for two more awards this season: Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Variety Special, raising the possibility of multiple wins in 2025.
The milestone now places Beyoncé halfway to EGOT status, which requires winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award. She’s already dominated the Grammys, earned an Oscar nomination in 2022 for “Be Alive” from King Richard, and has yet to claim a Tony.
Since her first Emmy nod in 2013 for her Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show, Beyoncé has been recognized for projects including On the Run Tour, Lemonade, and Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
