The Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has taken notice of the severe electricity and water crisis in Gwadar and has formed a special committee to take immediate measures, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the committee includes the Chief Minister of Balochistan, as well as the ministers and secretaries of planning, maritime affairs, and energy.
The committee will submit its recommendations to the Prime Minister within a set timeframe to ensure a permanent solution to these problems.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry reaffirmed that Gwadar’s development is the government’s top priority and pledged all possible efforts to secure a sustainable resolution to its electricity and water shortages.
He said the committee will present its recommendations to the Prime Minister, aiming to ensure long-term solutions.
Earlier today, national media reported that Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti, speaking via a video link from Quetta during a high-level meeting chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms, called for urgent and coordinated action to address Gwadar’s water and electricity problems.
The CM underscored the severe challenges facing the city’s water supply, stressing that ongoing electricity outages are the main obstacle to effective distribution.
He warned that without timely rainfall, Gwadar’s water situation could deteriorate further in the next seven months.
Bugti urged the development of sustainable infrastructure for both electricity and water systems to prevent future crises and ease the hardships of Gwadar’s residents.
