The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party meeting descended into heated exchanges as members clashed over strategy, leadership decisions, and the ongoing government negotiations issue.
Sources told 24NewsHD TV channel that the parliamentary party leadership had made any talks with the government conditional on formal approval from PTI founder Imran Khan.
This stance drew strong objections from several lawmakers, who questioned whether the party should be unable to make decisions without meeting Khan in prison.
Some members argued for empowering the parliamentary party to take independent decisions, citing examples from the PML-N’s conduct when Nawaz Sharif was jailed.
Many also opposed the idea of boycotting National Assembly sessions, pointing out that the Speaker has repeatedly urged PTI members to attend.
The meeting saw walkouts by several lawmakers frustrated over leadership silence on key questions, including the party’s August 14 strategy.
Some accused the leadership of being “compromised” and confusing members, particularly over the decision to protest in constituencies on August 5 versus visiting Adiala Jail.
Tensions boiled over when MNA Iqbal Afridi attempted to raise the Bajaur operation issue but was stopped by Amir Dogar, leading to a verbal altercation.
Afridi allegedly used harsh words before other members intervened. In another confrontation, Afridi also clashed with Sajid Mohmand during the same meeting.
The stormy session ended without consensus on negotiations with the government, leaving the party divided over both parliamentary participation and decision-making authority.
The meeting of the PTI parliamentary party, headed by Barrister Gohar, was attended by Aamir Dogar, Asad Qaiser, Ali Muhammad Khan, Sajid Mohmand, Sanaullah Mastikhel, Iqbal Afridi, and others. The meeting also discussed the strategy for today's NA session.
