Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and digital marketing strategist Moiz Qazi have sparked a fresh debate over celebrity-driven advertising after Hania questioned the scrutiny surrounding brands when the success in question belongs to a woman.

Moiz responded by insisting that his criticism was not about gender, but about brands relying too heavily on celebrity power instead of strong storytelling.

The exchange began after Moiz analysed Hania Aamir’s growing presence in Pakistan’s advertising industry, questioning whether brands rely too heavily on celebrity power instead of strong storytelling. Hania responded on Instagram, writing, “All love, but it’s interesting how concerned we get about brands and their marketing when the success in question belongs to a woman,” appearing to question the scrutiny surrounding her commercial success.

Moiz was quick to clarify his position. Responding to Hania’s post, he wrote, “This isn’t about gender. It’s an industry critique.” He explained that his concern was about brands relying too heavily on celebrity popularity instead of building advertisements around strong ideas and storytelling.

He further argued, “When brand managers use celebrity monopoly as a shortcut instead of real storytelling, the consumer remembers the celebrity not the brand.” His point was that while a major celebrity can instantly attract attention, an advertisement may fail to make a lasting impact if viewers remember the star but forget the product or campaign message.

By “celebrity monopoly,” Moiz was referring to the heavy dependence on a small group of major stars across advertising campaigns. His argument was not that celebrities should be excluded from marketing, but that brands should also focus on creative storytelling that gives the product its own identity.

Rather than turning into a personal confrontation, the discussion has highlighted two different perspectives on the same issue: Hania questioning why female success attracts such scrutiny, and Moiz arguing that the real concern is the advertising industry’s dependence on celebrity power.

As the debate continues online, Hania Aamir’s growing presence in Pakistan’s advertising world has once again placed the relationship between celebrities, brands and marketing strategy firmly in the spotlight.
