Pakistan Customs has seized gold and silver worth more than Rs 306 million at airports during the current fiscal year, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Customs confiscated 2.73 kilograms of gold and 359 kilograms of silver from various international airports across the country during the first five months of the fiscal year.
It further stated that the import of silver is regulated under the rules and procedures of the State Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Commerce.
Market assessments indicated that the price of silver has more than doubled over the past ten months.
The sharp rise in prices has contributed to a growing trend of silver smuggling in the country.
