A citizen has approached a court in Karachi seeking legal action to stop the promotion of an Indian film on social media in Pakistan, alleging misuse of political imagery and misrepresentation of sensitive areas.
According to details, Amir Khoso filed a petition in the Sessions Court South, Karachi, objecting to the Indian film titled “Dharandar.” The petition alleges that images of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and its founder Benazir Bhutto have been illegally used in the film, which the petitioner claims is an attempt to malign a major political party of Pakistan.
The petition objects to linking the PPP and the Lyari area with terrorism, terming it false, defamatory and highly objectionable. The petitioner strongly criticized the portrayal of Lyari as a terrorist hub, stating that it damages the image of the area and its residents.
Amir Khoso has requested the court to order the registration of an FIR and direct a transparent investigation into the matter. The petition states that despite approaching the police, no case was registered, prompting the petitioner to seek judicial intervention. The application has been filed under Sections 22-A and 22-B of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Talking to the media, the petitioner said he would not back down until those responsible are brought to justice, adding that efforts would be made to have the accused arrested through Interpol if necessary. He also announced that legal notices would be issued to major social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X, for hosting and promoting the content.
The court is expected to take up the petition for hearing and decide on the request for registration of an FIR and further legal action.
