Pakistan's star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has revealed that his finger injury is not serious, following an X-ray that confirmed no major damage. While some swelling remains, he is optimistic about a quick recovery.
Speaking to the media after Pakistan's victory over South Africa, Shaheen acknowledged concerns about death-over performances but reiterated that these matches are essential for fine-tuning strategies ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
"The last few overs haven't been great, but these games are all about preparation for the Champions Trophy," he stated.
Shaheen also addressed a brief exchange with South African opener Breetzke during the match. He revealed that he had playfully urged him to go for a wicket-taking shot, and in response, the player took a single before hitting him for a boundary.
"He hadn't said anything at first, but I teased him to go for a wicket-taking shot. Later, he took a single and then hit me. Whatever happened on the field had stayed on the field," he clarified.
Afridi urged that team unity and positive messaging are crucial for Pakistan’s cricketing success.
"We play for our country, and so do they. There's no Babar or Shaheen here—only Pakistan," he stressed.
He urged the media to be mindful of their narratives, as their words reach a global audience via social media.
"The role of the media is huge. Whatever message you convey spreads worldwide. As long as negativity persists, progress will be difficult anywhere."
