Katy Perry was spotted touring a newly purchased Montreal mansion with her boyfriend, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as the couple settles into post-political life.
The 54-year-old ex-PM recently acquired a nearly 100-year-old, 4,965-square-foot stone mansion in the upscale Outremont neighbourhood of Montreal for CAD 4.26 million (approximately $3.1 million USD). The property, built in 1931, sits on a 13,672-square-foot lot in the shadow of Mount Royal and features seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, a home office, and its own ballroom.
Trudeau and Perry were spotted having lunch at the nearby French bistro Leméac earlier this week, less than a mile from the new estate. Onlookers reportedly tried to take photos of the couple, but Trudeau insisted they were “having a private moment.” Perry, however, graciously signed an autograph for a young fan whose daughter is a big admirer.
The home was previously listed by luxury real estate broker Joseph Montanaro at CAD 4.5 million ($3.3 million USD). Trudeau purchased it from Nicolas Ruggieri, head of Batipart Invest’s Montreal real estate division, who had bought it in 2023 for CAD 5.425 million. Public records indicate Trudeau secured a mortgage from the Bank of Montreal, with annual property taxes estimated at just under $38,000..
The estate is protected by a metal fence and surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, featuring dual street access with a driveway and gated pathway on the north side and a two-car garage on the south side. Renovation work was observed on Thursday, with general contractor staff on site, suggesting the couple plans updates to the home.
Trudeau, who stepped down as Prime Minister in March 2025 after a decade in office, earned CAD 406,200 ($299,000 USD) in his final year and will be entitled to an annual pension of CAD 141,000, along with a retirement allowance at age 67. He is also commanding six-figure speaking fees through The Harry Walker Agency.
