In the current academic year, classes in Punjab educational institutions have been held for barely 116 days out of 298 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to report, due to Saturday, Sunday, summer, winter, gazetted, flood, war and unannounced holidays, 182 days have been lost.
About 30 more days of classes will be held in the months of January and February and after that only 146 days of classes will be held in this academic year.
The annual examinations will begin in March.
According to research, at least 180 days are required for curricular activities in a year to teach the complete syllabus.
If examinations are included, 210 days are required for curricular activities.
School owners suggested that while reviewing the academic calendar, the winter holidays should start in January instead of December.
In this regard, the School Education Department has also assured to change the pattern of the academic calendar from the next academic year.
