Educational institutions in Sindh to remain closed on Jan 17 for Shab-e-Meraj

The Sindh government has announced that all public and private educational institutions will remain closed on January 17 (Saturday) on account of Shab-i-Meraj, 24NewsHD TV reported. 

According to a notification issued on Tuesday, both government and private schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed on January 17.

Shab-e-Meraj is observed by Muslims on the 27th of Rajab in the Islamic lunar calendar to commemorate the miraculous Isra (night journey) and Meraj (ascension) of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

According to Islamic tradition, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was taken on a divine journey on the heavenly steed Buraq, crossing the seven skies and attaining closeness to Allah Almighty.

On this blessed night, Allah Almighty also ordained the five daily prayers (Salat) as obligatory for Muslims.

To mark the occasion, faithful gather in mosques after Isha prayers to offer special night-long prayers until Fajr, while Mahafil-e-Naat and religious gatherings are organised across the province.

Mosques, streets and homes are decorated with lights, pennants and buntings, creating a festive and spiritual atmosphere.

People also visit graveyards to pray for their departed loved ones, seeking Allah Almighty’s mercy and blessings on the sacred night.
