The federal government has taken a major decision on Afghan transit trade, allowing all Afghan cargo stranded at Karachi and Gwadar ports to be re-exported.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, traders will be given the option to re-export their Afghan transit trade consignments through any seaport of their choice.
Sources said the federal commerce ministry has granted an exemption from paragraph (4)6 of the Import Policy Order 2022.
Furthermore, the commerce minister has also written a formal letter to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in this regard.
The move is aimed at easing bottlenecks created after trade routes were disrupted.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan had earlier closed the Torkham and Chaman border crossing points for commercial activity.
The crossings were shut indefinitely from October 12 due to the security situation, halting the flow of transit trucks between the two neighbouring countries.
