Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal shared that Pakistan has initiated discussions with Netflix and other leading global OTT streaming platforms in a bid to secure long-term partnerships for local creators and expand the international reach of Pakistani films and television content.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the minister shared:
"Pakistani dramas and films are second to none, commanding immense demand and heartfelt appreciation across the globe. Under our Uraan Pakistan export endeavors, the creative and cultural industry stands as a vital cornerstone for our national export strategy. While major OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime are critical gateways to the global audience, they have unfortunately been weaponized by regional politics for too long, denying Pakistani content its rightful, due space. We are working towards changing that! Recognizing our massive export potential, the Government of Pakistan is currently in talks with Netflix and other global streaming giants to adjust the regional framework. Our goal is clear: secure an equitable share of space and open sustainable partnership avenues for Pakistani creators. In parallel, we aren't just waiting for a seat at their table the government is actively working towards developing Pakistan's very own independent OTT platform to champion our stories globally."

The minister said regional politics has long restricted Pakistani dramas and films from receiving the visibility they deserve on major streaming platforms despite their growing popularity and demand around the world.
He further claimed that the government aims to strengthen the creative and cultural industry under the ‘Uraan Pakistan Initiative’ by making it a key part of the country's export strategy. He added that discussions with Netflix and other global streaming platforms are aimed at securing fair representation for Pakistani content and creating long-term opportunities for local creators.
Ahsan Iqbal also said the government is working on developing Pakistan's own independent OTT platform to showcase Pakistani stories to audiences worldwide, alongside efforts to improve access to international streaming platforms.
