A young man died under suspicious circumstances at a rehabilitation centre in Islamabad, with his father alleging that the victim had been tortured by staff before his death, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.

The father submitted an application at Shahzad Town Police Station seeking the registration of a case against the management and staff of the Mind Rehabilitation Centre in Tarlai.

According to the application, the young man was admitted to the centre in June, but his family was not allowed to meet him for about a month.

The father said the centre’s management informed him on July 9 that his son was suffering from dengue.

However, when he reached the facility, he was told that his son had died, the application said.

The complainant alleged that there were visible signs of torture on his son’s body, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the death.

He further alleged that the centre’s staff closed the facility and fled following the incident.

The application said the centre’s owner, identified as Dr. Hamza, was also unavailable and could not be contacted after the death.

The father asked police to investigate the incident, determine the cause of death and take legal action against those responsible.

The complaint has been submitted to Shahzad Town police, while further details about the police response and any formal registration of a case were not immediately available.
