US soldiers who survived the Iranian missile attack on a US military base in Kuwait have levelled serious allegations against senior military commanders, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
According to a report by The Washington Post, the surviving soldiers said senior military leaders were aware that the US base in Kuwait was vulnerable but repeatedly ignored warnings about its security.
They alleged that troops were deployed to an exposed location without adequate defensive systems despite known risks.
The report, quoting a US official, said that after the attack, senior commanders abandoned the building instead of leading rescue efforts.
It also claimed that there was no effective system in place to evacuate wounded personnel for urgent medical treatment.
The Washington Post further reported that the Iranian attack on Kuwait on March 1 killed six American soldiers and injured 30 others.
An internal investigation into the incident reportedly did not hold any individual responsible, while no disciplinary action was recommended against any Pentagon official.
The report added that the outcome of the investigation has sparked deep disappointment among the families of the fallen and injured soldiers, who have criticised the Pentagon's handling of the incident and the lack of accountability.
