The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday reserved decisions on seven election petitions related to the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections after the completion of arguments by all parties.
During hearings held at the Election Commission, lawyers representing the petitioners and respondents presented detailed arguments and documentary evidence in support of their positions.
The Chief Election Commissioner reserved judgement on a petition filed by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) candidate and former speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Nazir Ahmed Advocate, from GBA-20 Ghizer-II, seeking re-election. According to Forms 47, 48 and 49 issued for the constituency, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Abdul Jahan was declared successful.
A decision was also reserved on a petition filed by PML-N candidate Muhammad Zafar from GBA-19 Ghizer-I, who has sought re-polling in the constituency. Official election results issued through Forms 47, 48 and 49 show Syed Jalal as the returned candidate.
Similarly, the Election Commission reserved its verdict on a petition filed by Aftab Haider, a candidate from GBA-3 Gilgit-III, seeking rechecking of votes and re-polling at certain polling stations. According to the official results, Syed Sohail Abbas was declared the successful candidate from the constituency.
The Chief Election Commissioner also reserved judgement on a petition filed by Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party candidate Wazir Muhammad Khan from GBA-10 Skardu-IV, seeking recount of votes, rechecking and fresh elections. PPP candidate Raja Nasir Ali Khan was declared the winner from the constituency under the official election results.
Another reserved decision relates to an election petition filed by candidate Muhammad Dilpazir from GBA-15 Diamer-I.
In addition, the Election Commission completed hearings on a petition filed by Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen candidate Riaz Akbar from GBA-4 Nagar-I, who challenged the election results and sought a recount of votes and re-election. According to Forms 47, 48 and 49, PPP candidate Zulfiqar Ali was declared successful from the constituency.
The Chief Election Commissioner reserved the verdicts after conducting a detailed review of the arguments, documentary evidence and legal points presented by all parties.
According to Election Commission officials, the reserved decisions are expected to be announced by June 15.
