Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday rejected claims of the Afghan Taliban that they hit targets inside Pakistan through drone strikes, stating that the assertions are false and unsupported by evidence.
In a fact-check statement, the ministry said two rudimentary drones belonging to the terrorist group Fitna al-Khawarij, which it said is nurtured by the Afghan Taliban regime, were intercepted by Pakistani security forces using electronic counter-measures.
According to the statement, the drones were successfully forced to crash before reaching any targets. Authorities said no military or other infrastructure was hit, although minor damage occurred due to debris from the drones after they were brought down.
The ministry further stated that the claims made by the Taliban regime were not supported by any verifiable evidence. It added that the allegations exposed what it described as the regime’s established role as a “master proxy of terrorism”, accusing it of harbouring and supporting multiple militant organisations, including groups described as Indian proxies such as Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan.
The statement also alleged that official accounts associated with the Taliban regime, including those linked to its defence authorities, regularly spread misinformation and propaganda.
As an example, the ministry referred to what it described as recent claims circulated by Taliban-linked accounts alleging that aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force had been shot down and pilots captured. According to the ministry, those claims were later deleted.
Concluding the statement, the ministry said that “truth always triumphs over falsehood.”
