Two individuals have been arrested under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA 2016) for sharing abusive and provocative content against the Pakistan Army and police on social media platforms.
First-ever case registered under PECA in Charsadda. Acting on the instructions of District Police Officer (DPO) Charsadda, Suleman Zafar, the Umarzai Police arrested an accused identified as Abdullah, son of Maqsood, a resident of Qadimabad.
According to police, Abdullah was actively involved in spreading abusive and threatening messages targeting national institutions during the heightened tensions of the recent Pak-India conflict.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DSP Tangi Gulshed Khan and SHO Qaiser Khan, who stated that such digital propaganda could undermine public trust in state institutions and disturb law and order.
In a related crackdown, another suspect, Nazir from Jhelum, was arrested by the National Cyber Crime Agency (NCIA).
Nazir was allegedly running a social media campaign against military officers and institutions, posting fake and misleading information with the intent to spread chaos and mistrust.
A case has been officially registered against both individuals under PECA 2016, and authorities say the National Cyber Crime Agency has so far identified over 500 accounts involved in similar propaganda activities.
Police and cybercrime officials have reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against the misuse of social media to malign national institutions and incite public disorder. Further investigations are ongoing.
