A meeting of the federal cabinet was chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday at Parliament House, Islamabad. During the meeting, key decisions were taken regarding harmonizing of relevant laws with the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The Cabinet approved amendments to the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act and Pakistan Navy Act. The aim of these amendments is to bring the laws related to the armed forces of Pakistan in line with the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The necessary legislation was enacted based on the amendments made to Article 243 of the Constitution, including the term of office of the Chief of Defense Forces.
Under these amendments, the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will cease to exist after the retirement of the current Chairman. Similarly, the posts of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, Admiral of the Fleet have also been included in these laws.
This scheme and amendments to the related laws have been proposed keeping in mind contemporary and modern warfare requirements.
The Federal Cabinet also approved the draft Federal Constitutional Court (Procedure and Practice) Act, 2025. The Federal Cabinet ratified the decisions taken in the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee held on November 7, 2025.
After the meeting, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal told media that relevant amendments were being made to the Army Act. Federal Minister said a new post has been created through a constitutional amendment. Ahsan Iqbal said along with Field Marshal, Navy and Air Force posts have also been created.
He said the Constitutional Bench is going to be replaced by a Constitutional Court under the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Federal Minister said the law regarding the establishment of the Constitutional Bench was being withdrawn.
