Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Thursday formed a committee for the construction of new seaports in the country and directed it to submit a report within the next three months, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The committee would identify new deep seaports on the country’s coastal belt.

The project of building new ports is a part of the Vision 2047-2147.

The existing ports will reach their capacity between 2035-2045.

The minister observed that increasing commercial activities would put more burden on the existing ports. “The committee will review different environmental, geographic factors,” he said, adding that in the report there would be suggestions for new industrial zones and logistics connectivity.

The next century, the minister went on to say, belonged to sea trade, and Pakistan would have to start making preparations for that from today.
