Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) are set to finalise five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) soon to enhance cooperation in extradition and other key security areas.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, British National Crime Agency (NCA) Director General Graeme Biggar met with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on expanding cooperation in counterterrorism, anti-narcotics operations, human trafficking prevention, forensic science, immigration, and police training.
The NCA chief lauded Pakistan’s efforts in combating narcotics and agreed to increase joint training and capacity-building programmes for officers of Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the National Counter-Narcotics Control Authority (NCCIA).
Both sides also decided to enhance coordination to combat online child harassment and strengthen joint mechanisms for investigation and information sharing.
As per the channel report, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Pakistan and the UK to enhance mutual assistance in extradition matters.
Graeme Biggar stated that the UK government continues to cooperate with Pakistan in multiple fields and praised Pakistan’s law enforcement initiatives.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that the roots of terrorism in Pakistan lead back to the neighbouring country and asserted that Pakistan’s resolve and resilience in fighting terrorism remain unmatched globally.
Mohsin Naqvi added that modern forensic tools and training programmes could further enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies.
He assured the UK delegation that effective measures are being implemented to curb illegal immigration with the support of international partners.
On this occasion, the NCA chief once again commended Pakistan’s anti-narcotics initiatives and reiterated the UK’s commitment to continued collaboration in various areas of law enforcement. The NCA Director General condemned the recent suicide attack in Islamabad.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, the Additional Secretary of the Interior Ministry, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police were also present at the meeting.
