United States President Donald Trump especially thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and “my favourite” Field Marshal Asim Munir on Monday for their efforts in achieving peace in Gaza, among many other world leaders.
Trump was addressing a ceremony following the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas at the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt. He also invited PM Shehbaz to deliver a special address at the ceremony. During an address at the Gaza summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, US President Donald Trump acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his “favourite field marshal from Pakistan” before giving the floor to PM Shehbaz to deliver a speech.
“I would say this is one of the greatest days in contemporary history, because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts,” PM Shehbaz said.
Efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace who had relentlessly and untiringly worked throughout these months, day in and day out, to make this world a place to live in peace and prosperity, he added.
The PM reiterated that Pakistan nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding, extraordinary contributions to first, stop war between India and Pakistan and then achieve a ceasefire, along with his very wonderful team.
PM Shehbaz said, “Again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize, because I genuinely fel he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the peace prize because he has brought not only peace in South Asia — saved millions of people, their livews — and today, achieving peace in Gaza [and] saving, millions of lvies in the middle east.”
PM Shehbaz added that Trump was the man the world needed most at this point in time and said that the world would remember him as someone who stopped seven, now eight, wars.
On the occasion Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for peace in the region and solidarity with the people of Palestine.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz met world leaders in Egypt including United States President Donald Trump. He reiterated the affirmation during his meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of Sharm al-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt. The meetings discussed measures for peace in the region and satisfaction was expressed over the ceasefire in Gaza.
The meetings were held with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Jordan's King Abdullah II, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the people of Gaza for their “courage and bravery” in enduring immense hardships amid conflict. He welcomed the recent ceasefire and peace agreement, describing it as a precursor to lasting peace and development for Palestinians and the wider region.
The meeting, held in a cordial and pleasant atmosphere, brought together King Hamad and President Abbas. President Mahmoud Abbas thanked Pakistan for its consistent support to Palestine on both political and diplomatic fronts.
According to officials, detailed discussions took place during the informal session preceding the ceasefire signing, where both leaders expressed satisfaction over the Gaza ceasefire and emphasized the need to consolidate peace efforts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Sharm el-Sheikh. During the meeting, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the ceasefire in Gaza.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also joined the meeting and took part in the discussions. The PM also held separate meetings with King Abdullah II of Jordan and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain.
In addition, the premier met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Indonesian President Prabodh Sobhi, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He also held meetings with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his engagements in Sharm el-Sheikh.

During an informal meeting with both leaders, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated them on achieving the historic peace accord and discussed regional and global issues, including the Gaza peace agreement.
Earlier, the prime minister reached Egypt to participate in the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Agreement on the special invitation of US President Donald Trump and Egyptian president. The event marks a major diplomatic step toward ending the months-long conflict in Gaza.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. The delegation will represent Pakistan at the Gaza Peace Summit, which aims to solidify a permanent ceasefire and initiate reconstruction efforts in the war-torn region.
