Iran has presented the United States with seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while making it clear that the waterway will not be reopened as part of any agreement reached with Oman, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to Russian media reports, Iran has conveyed the seven conditions to the United States through intermediaries.
The move comes as diplomatic efforts continue over access to the strategic waterway, which is vital to global energy supplies.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tehran would host a meeting in Muscat tomorrow, with representatives from Iraq and Gulf countries also expected to attend.
Under the proposed arrangements, the entry route into the Persian Gulf would pass entirely through Iranian waters, while the exit route from the Persian Gulf would partly pass through Iranian waters.
Iran has said all such transit would be carried out under Iranian protocols. It also said the southern route, which the United States has been insisting should be opened, would remain closed.
The conditions indicate that Tehran intends to retain control over the key maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz while negotiations over its reopening continue.
