The federal government has activated a state-of-the-art digital system for a special petrol relief scheme aimed at providing a subsidy of Rs100 per litre to eligible owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Chingchis and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
The scheme has been developed by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication in collaboration with provincial departments, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and telecom operators.
The initiative follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to provide relief to the working class amid challenging economic conditions and ensure that the subsidy reaches eligible citizens through a transparent and automated mechanism.
Under the scheme, owners of motorcycles and Chingchis will be eligible for up to 20 litres of subsidised petrol per month, while owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc will be entitled to a maximum of 30 litres per month.
The government has also automated the vehicle verification process in coordination with provincial transport and excise departments to minimise errors and ensure that only eligible applicants receive the subsidy.
How To Register
Citizens seeking to benefit from the scheme must send an SMS from a mobile SIM registered in their own name.
The registration message should follow this format:
REG [Space] CNIC (without dashes) [Space] Vehicle Number (without spaces or dashes) [Space] Province Code [Space] Vehicle Registration Date
Applicants will receive a confirmation message after successful registration.
How To Obtain Subsidised Petrol
After registration, eligible citizens must obtain a fuel token before visiting a petrol station.
They should send “TOK” via SMS to 9771 from their registered mobile phone. After receiving the fuel token, the applicant can visit a participating petrol pump and present the token for verification to obtain subsidised petrol.
The government said the subsidised fuel supply will begin in Islamabad on the night between Monday and Tuesday.
Across the rest of the country, the relief measure will become available at petrol pumps on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to use digital technology to improve the delivery of public relief and reduce the financial burden caused by high fuel prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated his commitment to using available resources to provide relief to the public, particularly members of the working class facing increased living costs.
