Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that all possible steps would be taken to provide relief to the people, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was chairing Power Division’s meeting held to devise a strategy to bring down prices of petroleum products and control power outages.
The Power Division officials told the prime minister that 18 power plants lay closed because either their belts were broken or wires developed faults; seven others were closed since they did not have fuel while nine plants had not paid their bills.
All these plants had the capacity to produce 8, 000 megawatts of electricity, and hopefully they would become functional by Eidul Fitr, they told Shehbaz.
He further said that the new government had also started making preparations for the new budget.
Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and PML-N leader Miftah Ismael also attended the meeting besides secretary petroleum, secretary finance and OGRA chairman.
