Iran's ambassador to Islamabad, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has strongly denounced the US move to establish a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, calling it an “unlawful, provocative and non-constructive act” that could destabilise the region and beyond.

In a statement posted on his official X account, the Iranian envoy described the move as part of a “vicious cycle” in which rhetoric fuels reckless actions, further escalating tensions.

He characterised the blockade as a “reckless misstep,” suggesting it may be aimed at creating a narrative that developments are being imposed by force, thereby justifying the deployment of munitions, intensified rhetoric, and potential loss of lives, along with increased costs for American taxpayers.

Moghadam warned that such miscalculations would add to an expanding list of strategic errors with “dire consequences for the whole region and beyond,” cautioning that coercive economic measures risk undermining global peace, security, and stability.

Describing the move as “economic terrorism,” he said it jeopardises livelihoods and appears driven by political ambitions rather than constructive engagement, adding that the international community is closely watching developments.
