The Kuwait government has detained a journalist for posting a video of a crashed US fighter jet,
According to media reports and a press freedom watchdog, the journalist, identified as Ahmed Shahab, was taken into custody weeks after he shared footage showing the aftermath of a US military aircraft crash in Kuwait City.
According to US broadcaster reports, the video was posted approximately six weeks ago and depicted an incident involving American forces stationed in the Gulf state.
The Committee to Protect Journalists said the reporter faces charges of spreading false news and harming national security.
In a statement, the watchdog criticised the allegations as “vague and overly broad,” warning that such charges are often used to silence independent journalists and restrict press freedom.
Authorities in Kuwait have not publicly detailed the evidence against Shahab, while rights groups have urged transparency and respect for freedom of expression.
