The University of Health Sciences (UHS) marked Independence Day on Friday with a flag-hoisting ceremony, a plantation drive, an independence walk and a cultural programme attended by a large number of faculty members, officers, employees and students.
Vice Chancellor Prof Nadia Naseem hoisted the national flag at the university premises, followed by prayers for the country's security, prosperity and progress.
The university also launched its monsoon plantation campaign as part of the Independence Day activities.
The vice chancellor, faculty members, administrative staff and students later took part in an independence walk.
A cultural programme at Shams Auditorium featured recitation of the Holy Quran by Hafiz Muhammad Hassan Raza and Naat by Hassan Ali.
Students Uzair Imtiaz and Alisha Imtiaz presented national songs, while Asifa, Alishba, Shahoor Fatima and Areeba Rizwan delivered speeches in Urdu and English on the Pakistan Movement, the value of freedom and patriotism.
A documentary on Pakistan, prepared by student Muhammad Taha, was also screened.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nadia Naseem described freedom as a great blessing as well as a collective responsibility.
The celebrations concluded with the cutting of a cake to mark Pakistan's Independence Day.
