In a bid to cut down caseload pending before the courts, the law ministry has decided to amend the law in order to dispose of unresolved cases on time and the Lahore High Court chief justice has given a green-signal in this regard, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
It has been decided that the first pilot project would be launched in Lahore.
Law Secretary Malik Akhtar Javed has issued notification in this regard.
According to sources, the ministry has decided to form an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Authority after the approval of the cabinet and assembly.
The ADR refers to a number of processes that can resolve disputes between parties without the need to go to court.
It has been decided that the head of the proposed ADR Authority would be a retired judge of the high court.
The ministry has approved Rs96 million for the establishment of the authority to bear its expenses.
Now, the cases which are sub judice in courts, they could be sent to the ADR centres.
The ADR centres would try to resolve disputes with the mutual agreement of parties involved within a stipulated period of time. However, in case the ADR centres fail to resolve the matter, they will send the cases back to the courts.
Sources revealed that before enacting amendments to the law, the law secretary held a meeting with the Lahore High Court chief justice and apprised him of the proposed changes.
The chief justice expressed his satisfaction over the draft of the amended law.
The secretary told the judge that the amendments would be made after getting instructions from National Judicial Commission ADR Committee Head Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
