Russia launched a hypersonic missile attack on Ukraine, targeting military installations and energy infrastructure, Ukrainian officials reported.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the strikes left around one million homes without electricity, compounding the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russian forces deployed 450 drones and 30 missiles during the attacks.
According to the country’s Interior Minister, five regions were affected, with five people reported injured in the strikes.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that the attacks were carried out in response to alleged Ukrainian strikes on civilian targets inside Russia.
The ministry described the operation as a retaliatory measure, highlighting Moscow’s ongoing claims of defending its territory.
The missile strikes come amid heightened tensions in the region, further escalating the conflict and raising concerns about the safety of civilian infrastructure and residents in affected areas.
