Veteran wrestler and WWE superstar John Cena bid farewell to the wrestling world after suffering a defeat against Gunther at Saturday night’s main event held at Capital One Arena, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
A 17-time World Champion and one of the most iconic figures in professional wrestling, Cena engaged in a fiercely competitive bout with Gunther, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout the match.
Cena delivered three Attitude Adjustments—including a dramatic top-rope variant—and even put Gunther through the announce table, but was ultimately unable to secure victory.
Gunther achieved his objective, forcing Cena to submit to a sleeper hold after multiple escape attempts, marking a dramatic conclusion to Cena’s storied in-ring career.
The event was staged as a major spectacle, featuring numerous celebrities and wrestling legends in attendance.
Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Trish Stratus, Eve Torres, and others were seated ringside, while tribute videos celebrated Cena’s legacy with appearances from The Undertaker, The Rock, and sports stars including Tom Brady and Jalen Brunson.
Gunther entered the arena first, followed by a thunderous ovation for Cena, with the traditional “Cena sucks” chant notably absent and replaced entirely by supportive cheers.
Cena even paused to film himself before sprinting to the ring and greeting the legends seated at ringside.
After the match, an emotional Cena addressed the crowd, simply stating, “That’s all I’ve got.”
The locker room then emptied as wrestlers surrounded the ring, with CM Punk and Cody Rhodes joining Cena to place their championship belts on his shoulders.
