Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Tuesday decided to boycott the by-elections as its senior leadership is not in favour of participating in upcoming polls.
According to the well-placed sources in the party, the decision to boycott the by-elections was taken in the PPP Parliamentary Board meeting chaired by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday.
The sources said it is also decided in the meeting that the central leadership will make the formal announcement of boycotting the by-elections.
As per the sources, the PPP candidates were taken into confidence in the meeting about the decision to boycott the by-elections from the party.
Meanwhile, the party sources claimed that there was a clear split in the PPP leadership on the issue of participation in the by-elections as some senior leaders are against participating in the by-elections while others want to contest.
The video-linked PPP Parliamentary Board meeting was attended by Yusuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Nayyar Bukhari, Farhatullah Babar, Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, and Faryal Talpur.
