Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has postponed the elections of Karachi Bar Association (KBA) for indefinite time on the plea that Sindh Bar Council election board failed to complete the verification of voters lists within stipulated time, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
The PBC announced this decision on an appeal of Advocate Mumtaz Khan Tanoli who claimed that the Election Board established under the Sindh Bar Council had failed to verify the voter lists.
Pakistan Bar Council made it clear that the election process cannot be transparent without verification and the Sindh Bar Council cannot conduct elections without following its own orders.
Meanwhile, Karachi lawyers held General Body Meeting at City Court and rejected the decision of Pakistan Bar Council. On the occasion, lawyers announced that they will hold their elections on 7 March at all cost. Sindh Bar Council member Haq Nawaz Talpur and former vice chairman Zulfiqar Jalbani have been nominated as election commissioner. Amir Nawaz Warraich claimed that Mumtaz Tanoli, who filed a petition with the Pakistan Bar Council, has withdrawn his petition.
The PBC maintained that Sindh Bar Council cannot hold elections without following its own orders. It directed Secretary Sindh Bar Council to submit voter lists and ballot materials.
Pakistan Bar Council said that the administrative committee established by Sindh Bar Council should continue its work until the next hearing.
