Automobile sales rise 46pc in six months in Pakistan

Automobile sales in Pakistan surged by 46 percent during the first half of the current fiscal year (FY26), reaching 88,322 units despite a slowdown in December, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday

According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturing Association, during the first half of the current fiscal year, 22,412 units of jeeps and pick-ups, and a 106 percent jump was recorded in the sale of trucks.

During the first half of the current fiscal year, 3071 units of trucks were sold, while 461 units of buses were sold, which showed a 52 percent increase in sales.

Sales of motorcycles and rickshaws recorded at 33 percent with 921,566 units.

Auto sector expert Mashood Ali Khan said proactive government policies and market stability helped overcome challenges posed by policy uncertainty and used-car imports, supporting strong growth in domestic automobile sales.

Mashood Ahmad Khan further said that during the last one and a half years 11.50 percent decrease was announced in the interest rate.

The interest rate fell from 22 percent to 10.50 percent, and the Pakistani rupee remained stable. Auto sector revival became possible by lifting import restrictions. He hoped that the current upward trend would continue in the future also.
