Several motorways in Pakistan’s Central Region were closed on Wednesday due to dense fog, significantly reducing visibility and posing serious risks to road users.
According to the Motorway Police, the closures were implemented to protect the lives and property of the public amid hazardous driving conditions.
The Lahore–Sialkot Motorway (M-11) was completely closed due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog. In addition, the Motorway Police announced that the M-2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin was closed, with restrictions particularly affecting large vehicles. The M-3 motorway from Faizpur to Samundri was also shut down as fog continued to blanket the region.
Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Region, said that lane violations during foggy conditions can lead to serious accidents. He emphasized that motorists must strictly follow lane discipline and avoid risky driving behavior.
Authorities have advised road users to prefer traveling during daytime hours, noting that safer travel times in foggy conditions are generally between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Drivers have also been urged to use fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from speeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
The Motorway Police further advised citizens to remain cautious and patient until weather conditions improve. Motorists seeking guidance or assistance can contact the Motorway Police Helpline at 130.
Traffic authorities stated that motorways will be reopened once visibility improves and conditions are deemed safe for travel.
