The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), which met with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi in the chair on Wednesday, made six additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) permanent besides giving six-month extension to four others.
The judges who were made permanent were Justice Tariq Afridi, Justice Abdul Fayyaz, Justice Salahuddin, Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Mudassir Ameer, and Justice Qazi Jawad.
Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Inamullah, Justice Aurangzeb and Justice Sabitullah were given six-month extension.
The session took place a day after the Commission approved the confirmation of ten out of twelve additional judges for the Sindh High Court, granting permanent status to the majority of the nominees under consideration.
That meeting, held on Tuesday at the Supreme Court’s Conference Room under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, recommended ten candidates by majority vote while extending the tenure of two judges—Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani and Justice Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah—for another six months.
Those confirmed to the Sindh High Court included Justice Meeran Muhammad Shah, Justice Tasleem Sultana, Justice Riazat Ali Sahar, Justice Muhammad Hassan, Justice Abdul Hamid Bhurgi, Justice Jan Ali Junejo, Justice Nasir Ahmed Bhanboro, Justice Ali Haider Ada, Justice Usman Ali and Justice Muhammad Jafar Raza.
The Judicial Commission also approved a six-month extension for the Sindh High Court’s constitutional benches and added four new judges—Justice Amjad Ali Bohio, Justice Muhammad Hassan (Akber), Justice Ali Haider ‘Ada’ and Justice Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi—to the constitutional roster.
Tuesday’s meeting followed earlier decisions in which the Commission confirmed three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court and approved one appointment to the Balochistan High Court.
Justice Najamuddin Mengal was confirmed for the Balochistan High Court, while Justice Ayub Khan did not receive approval. The Islamabad High Court judges granted permanent status were Justice Inam Ameen Minhas, Justice Azam Khan and Justice Muhammad Asif.
The Judicial Commission is also set to meet on January 15 to consider the confirmation of thirteen additional judges of the Lahore High Court. Nine of the LHC judges in question were appointed on February 10, 2025, while four were appointed on March 4, 2025.
Their names include Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Justice Waqar Haider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Ali Dogar, Justice Syed Ahsan Raza, Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Awais Khalid, Justice Sultan Mehmood, Justice Raja Ghazanfar Ali, Justice Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh, Justice Tariq Mehmood Bajwa and Justice Abhar Gul Khan.
